This year in a nutshell

On Friday, I got promoted to full Professor. Today, got a paper rejected, and the first thing reviewer 2 said about the paper was that "In academic writing, the use of short forms of words such as "we've" are not allowed." 😂 Stay humble!

My son’s team is playing in the WA cup today and the Sounders play LAFC. Nervous for both! Excited for a day of ⚽️

Just spent the past two days with other school board directors from across the state. Feeling hope and optimism and appreciation for the laws and policies in WA state that help us focus on children.

Scenes of academic absurdity in times of scarcity, during our faculty meeting yesterday we were told not to throw away any garbage in our meeting room because otherwise we'd be charged for it (in other words pay custodians).

I volunteer with an org in Seattle that supports kids experiencing foster care, many of them immigrants, LGBT, BIPOC. They're always looking for donations & volunteers, and I bet lots of places have similar local orgs that would also love more support 💚 Treehouseforkids.org

Trying to find some positive energy today. Had a productive meeting with folks at a local nonprofit about doing a community-engaged project with my Winter design class. That feels like a tiny thing in a sea of despair.

Just reached out to a UX research tool to see if there was an educational discount or a possibility of using the tool in class with my students, and the company (which I won't name) responded and said...yes, how about an enterprise subscription starting at 30K, is that in your budget? LOL.

Just like all of social media, I need a reset button.
