as usual. mostly good questions/reactions about what we're building at world. most disappointing, however, is those who flat out refuse to engage with us to overcome their misconceptions

I listen to audiobooks and read physical books. It’s a completely different process of absorbing information. There have been a number of studies that confirm you retain more through physical books than audio. I find this to be true as well, it’s much easier for me to become distracted with audio.

“Decentralization is the result of a system that diffuses power throughout its structure, so that no node holds particular power at the center.” Brilliant!

I attended a meetup in Seattle and got to spend time with
@bnewbold.net
and
@pfrazee.com
from the Bluesky engineering team. I walked away with an understanding of the role DIDs and PDSs play in the grand scheme of things, and why the most exciting work sits higher up the stack. I almost unretired.

content moderation is an unbounded complex problem. no one will ever agree on the same rules & decisions. better to allow everyone to curate their own rules & be their own arbiter. that’s decentralization

I’m at peets and ordered an americano. I stand and wait for it to be ready, the barista asks me what I’m waiting for and I tell him. He turns around and seconds later he looks at his coworker and says “any normal people orders in these?”

Unpopular opinion: key security for crypto + identity should be hard. You’re dealing with the most sensitive information you have. If it’s easy, you’re making trade offs and not taking it seriously enough

I’d like to see banning become a lot harder. Something like 3 strikes with a fixed time bound between each strike. Stop people from creating their own echo chambers

decentralization = curation, which has a risk of “choose your own echo chamber” I want an opt-in for random exposure to different viewpoints
