I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

And I’m going to go as far as to say that the predominant religion of America is not Christianity, it’s Gun. We have a number of Americans who praise Gun above all other gods, revere Gun, put the value of Gun over the value of people’s lives.

Frankly all the violence is sickening. We need to win the war of words thoughts and ideas so that we stop this from being a war fought with guns.

Allowing anyone to buy a gun and massacre people is a choice we don't need to keep making. We can pass laws the majority of us favor, prosecute the arms manufacturers for their complicity, and make this a place where everyone is safe to come home to the people they love.

I think this says it better than I can. I decry gun violence and political violence. But we live in a country that accepts both as given, and have a government that uses violence as a weapon.
