Research England have announced today that Professor Claire Langhamer is to be Deputy Chair for the REF2029 History sub-panel. Claire, who is Director @ihr.bsky.social, will work with Professor Jonathan Morris (Hertfordshire) whose appointment as Chair was announced last month #Skystorians 1/2

Paul McFarlane completed his PhD a few months back: I supervised, along with @frankcogliano.bsky.social. His thesis examined Scots, the diaspora, and soccer/assoc football in Canada/the US pre-1921. It's brilliant, it's now available free online.

There’s definitely a push at my place and others to abandon subject-rich modules and replace them with - and I quote - ‘generic’ ones that ‘anyone in the department can teach’. A) it’s bad and b) I don’t think it’s what students are looking for.

As ever, the loudest voices calling for the collapse of universities, presumably in the post-92 sector, benefitted from privileged educations.

“If universities start to fail, it will be disastrous for Labour MPs and their constituents. It would be the modern equivalent of the factory closure, or the end of the pit. “And despite how some Labour MPs seem to imagine their voters, it would be Labour’s core supporters who were most affected.”
