Really chuffed to see @playingpasts.bsky.social post the first part of some exciting research about a pioneering female manager.

So, I was trying my best to write new text for work to celebrate the #Lionesses win, popped on BBCRadio3 to help, and didn't realize they were doing a Celebratory Mixtape, until the orchestral version of Sweet Caroline. Now I'm in bits and I've still got text to write!

All the papers are in the bag - themes of the days are Queens (X2), Roar (X2), Revenge, Golden, LionYESses, Trips to the Palace, and the Hann(ah)of God. Only the Daily Mail doesn't give the whole page over to England's win.

Contemporary collecting for the #WEUROS final - all the Sunday editions for the build up. A mixed bag in terms of front pages, with a poor show from the Daily Mail, who are the only paper not to have a picture of any of the players on the front or back pages.

Another post to celebrate #England meeting #Wales in #WEURO2025 today. It would have been a special day for the late Lioness Sylvia Gore MBE, who managed Wales from 1982 to 1989. Sue Lopez writes that she stepped down after spending £5,000 of her own money to support the team.

Today is #NationalBiscuitDay We're not sure how edible this one is... It belonged to George Burnett who was lost on the Somme for four days in 1916. Before the war George worked in a chemical factory. After he'd been discharged in 1919 he worked at Barrow Colliery.

1/2 I'm in Plymouth today for the unveiling of Historic England's new Blue Plaque in Glendower Road. This one is for Plymouth Argyle footballer Jack Leslie (1901-88), who, in 1925, was the first black player to be selected to play for England, only to be quietly deselected.

Its disappointing to see that the Wikipedia entry for Stan Cullis makes a false claim that he was dropped for refusing to make the Nazi salute before England's game in Berlin in 1938. He was never due to play, having been selected as a reserve when the team was announced the month before.

New research blog: the 400th match of the Scotland women's football team is coming up. I've researched the history of the team and have just published a complete record of all 399 matches since 1972.
