#31daysofgraves 31: Memento Mori - not exactly Memento Mori but I wanted to include this one, in plot 3-219, #Macclesfield Cemetery. Brings tears to my eyes every time I read it. Transcription in alt text. Unusually, no dates of death are given but Ida died in 1993 and Albert in 1996.

Day 31 of #31daysofgraves - momento mori. The slate headstone marking the grave of Vincent Fletcher who died in 1794 aged 92. There’s an urn engraved at the top with ‘momento mori’ inscribed on it. What stories he must have had, having almost lived through the whole 18th century!

I know it’s supposed to be an hourglass that he is holding, but I prefer to think of it as the reaper unwinding and enjoying a cold beer after a long day of harvesting souls.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 31 Momento Mori Given the period St John's Graveyard was in operation, and knowing by then the Church of all denominations were not keen on the imagery of skeletons and skulls, we don't have any. We do have an abundance of urns with whispering veils.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 30 - Colour This pink marble grave stands out amongst the more common limestone ones around here. It's to John Thomas Todd who died on 9 September 1870 aged 9 years and to Emily Jane Wakelin Todd who died 1 December 1918 aged 51, son and daughter of John and Susannah Todd.
