Remembering those lost in #WW1. The civilian death of Firth Dole of #Nelson. A #Fireman at the a munitions factory in Lancaster, when fire broke out in 1917, Mr Dole went bravely to fight it, but was overwhelmed by flames and explosions. The blast was felt 44miles away in #Burnley #Firefighter

Flying Officer Edmund (Edward) Thornley Lund, #Nelson, #Lancashire, died whilst serving with the #RAF VR 7th Sqd on 20th May 1944. Remembered on the family grave at St John's Church In 1942, serving with RAF 61(b) Sqd as rear gunner, he survived a crash and walked for help on 2 broken ankles. 1/2

#31daysofgraves 31: Memento Mori - not exactly Memento Mori but I wanted to include this one, in plot 3-219, #Macclesfield Cemetery. Brings tears to my eyes every time I read it. Transcription in alt text. Unusually, no dates of death are given but Ida died in 1993 and Albert in 1996.

Day 31 of #31daysofgraves - momento mori. The slate headstone marking the grave of Vincent Fletcher who died in 1794 aged 92. There’s an urn engraved at the top with ‘momento mori’ inscribed on it. What stories he must have had, having almost lived through the whole 18th century!
