Mariannenplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The curved streets in the foreground were next to the sunken gardens that at one point used to be the Luisenstadt Canal and (starting in 1961) part of the No-man’s land between East and West Berlin.

I found these Victorian/Edwardian wool fall-front trousers in a local charity shop today. They were made through the Amalgamated Society of Tailors, which existed under that name between 1866 and 1906!

Failing to hold Farage accountable is exactly the path that led to Trump in the US. There has to be accountability *early* or there's no stopping the runaway train.

(2) Sophienkirche (Große Hamburger Str., Berlin-Mitte): Later that day, King crossed the border into East Berlin, using his credit card as an id, and gave sermons in English at two churches, one of the Sophienkirche.

On 13 Sep. 1964, Martin Luther King visited Berlin. Here are two memorial plaques: (1) Stallschreiber Str. 42 (Berlin-Kreuzberg): When a man had successfully fled East Berlin that day, supported by a US-American soldier and the West-Berlin police, King visited the site and condemned the Berlin Wall.

In the UK between 2017 and 2023, 1,108 higher education students committed suicide. Further studies suggest that up to 40% of PhD students are at suicide risk, with high levels of depression. If you need help, there is no shame in asking for it.

16.1.1950 Entnazifizierungs-Skandal in Stuttgart. In großem Umfang hat ein Vermittlungsbüro in Nürtingen Persilscheine verkauft und Hauptkläger und Vorsitzende von Spruchkammern bestochen, um milde Urteile für ihre Klienten zu erwirken.

I want to scan and organize my family‘s slides which will take me some time. How (i.e. in what kind of container) can I temporarily (i.e. weeks or months) store the slides (the real boxes are hard to come by) before I probably put them in A4-sleeves? I just want to keep them together in a neat way.

The Army units under COL Chivington's command murdered at least 150-170 Cheyenne and Arapaho men, women, and children (but likely many more) at Sand Creek, Colorado in 1864.

Not to split hairs, but ICE are *not* Trump's Gestapo. That endows them with a level of intellect and sophistication that these thuggish apes have proven they do not possess.

Today I received these photographs from Germany. The captions state ‘General’s visit to Barowitsche’ & ‘Pflugbeil’. This is Generalleutnant Johann Pflugbeil, commander of the Wehrmacht 221st Security Division, the focus of my thesis.

The border crossing point at Oberbaumbrücke on the evening of 10 Nov. 1989 - the 2nd day of when the Berlin Wall was suddenly open. It is a collage I made shortly after and as I did not want to rip off the photos, I scanned the page, adjusted each image a bit and rebuilt the collage digitally.

An excellent photo of Cpl Cooper of the Durham Light Infantry ready for patrol in Korea, September 1952. Mk.V Sten, extra magazines stuffed in his Battledress trouser pocket, Mills Bomb, jersey, cap comforter, and, most importantly for a soldier, a cig. (D.R.O.)

, here's a great photo of an M4A3 Sherman of the 5th Tank Battalion (US Marines) stuck in sand in Iwo Jima, 1945. What is striking about this shot is the amount of extra protection given to the tank against Japanese tank hunter teams. A thread. 1/
