Here for my fourth of four overnight shifts. Temps are holding steady and things are moving along

Mugs and whisky tumblers and bowls, plus my one wild clay bowl that I'm hoping doesn't melt

Was so busy glazing today that I forgot to take any pics! Now everything's loaded up in the car to take to kiln loading tomorrow

The kiln actually cooled enough overnight that I was able to empty it before I got on the road this morning, after all. The only casualty, sadly, was the dog bowl I threw for Petal in 100% wild SC clay. May still glaze okay, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. The rice bowls I did in the same clay turned out great

All valves are open now and the highest temp I saw was 783.5°C. Now it's hovering a bit lower and will be going down as the propane runs out, but I think I got about cone 016, which is sufficient for bisque firing. Probably won't be cool enough for glazing before I have to leave tomorrow, though

Using this setup with only 20# propane tanks, I've not been able to get things above bisque temps. That's at least adequate to get work ready for the anagama, though

Today was the last work day at the anagama before loading starts next weekend. Since I'm away for work all this coming week, I need to try to bisque fire tomorrow, so I put my whisky tumblers in a low oven (mine heats as low as 170°F/77°C) before I left. Hopefully there won't be any disasters

Carved my whisky tumblers this evening. The one at lower left popped off the batt a bit too exuberantly, flipped out of my hands, and took a hard fall. Got the rim more or less back in shape but it left an ugly bump on the inside so that one's gonna be for personal use

Threw the base shapes for whisky tumblers and coated the insides with white slip. Once they've dried a bit, I'll carve the outsides with a wire harp, kurinuki-esque. These I'll glaze inside with a celadon glaze as a contrast to the raw exteriors

Mug bodies trimmed and handles cut. Absolutely insane how long it's taking for things to dry this week, but these will need to sit at least a few hours before I can attach the handles

Home from the New England Woodfiring Conference, which was just an amazing weekend. Aside from a conference t-shirt, I made two small purchases. First is a yunomi by Hitomi Shibata, made with native NC clays, and then a small bowl by Lillann Ulverud, woodfiring rock star from Norway

Kiln temps have equalized considerably over the course of the day, so tonight will be about holding temperatures to allow ash to accumulate on the pots

Firing in reduction now, so incompletely combusted gases coming out of the blowholes with the primary flame are hitting oxygen in the air and creating a secondary, brighter flame

My first shift of four

This weekend was kiln loading for the New England Wood Firing Conference. It's my first anagama firing and only the third firing of the NH Potters Guild community kiln. So many pieces and I managed to get about 30 of mine in. The pig is not mine, but she's an amazing piece

This very random vase was a fun, freeform handbuild and did great in the bisque firing. I've coated the inside and about halfway down the throat with my experimental ash celadon and now painted the "fish" with copper carbonate. Hoping to get some interesting effects in the anagama
