I am disabled and have never been allowed to drive, which is the norm here in Canada. You generally have to fight pretty hard to convince them to let you have a liscense. So when I see people opposing bike lanes and multi-use paths, which I rely in, using me as their example, I am filled with rage.

$1b a year for free PT is over four times the amount the PBO previously cited ($214m pa) for upgrading all #Melbourne train and tram lines to run every 10 minutes every day, with plenty left for V/Line and buses. Improved services get more people on board than free rides.

The best way to help people reduce their fuel use is to give them more options. We look forward to seeing more investment in walking, cycling and public transport in the upcoming Federal and State budgets.

It may seem like nerdy detail that the increasing weight of cars is worsening potholes, but it matters. The car makers push to sell wider and heavier cars is increasing road maintenance costs and that affects us all. Not to mention worse crash outcomes and less space to pass (wider) parked cars.

Albanese telling people to reconsider driving is incredible optics. Mate, you built a country where driving is mandatory. A country where cyclists, pedestrians, and anyone not using a car is treated as a second-class citizen. Car-dependence is baked into every major policy you have architected.
