God every time I see someone say ai is helpful because it makes writing/art easier I just think like... if you really need ai to help you tell your story, then you have nothing of worth to say. You just want the gratification that comes with telling a story that resonates with people.

Look, some of us are still shit at drawing hands.

One of the least discussed reasons that making art is a political act of resistance is that when make art, our mental & spiritual energy is used in the ways WE wish. Any creative act/thought, however small or hidden, is resistance against a system that wants people's thoughts & souls for itself.

But now it has not felt like ours in a long time, and instead of creating our corners we're trying to squeeze ourselves wherever we can fit. A place where advertisers are prioritized over users and billionaires play political games.

I genuinely feel like I've been grieving for how social media used to be for art. Or how social media used to be in general. It felt like it was ours, like we could create a little corner for ourselves on it and share it with each other.

I did it. I had my wife change my password to something only she knows for Facebook and Instagram. Then I logged out of them on my devices and deleted them from my phone. Threads too. Later Meta! ✌️

True creative (and personal) growth happens when you shift your energy towards finding solutions, not just dwelling on what’s not working. Focus less on what you can’t do and instead focus on how you can approach the problem from another angle.

Be more curious when you create. When you feel frustrated, breathe and be more curious. When you feel impatient, slow down and be more curious. When you feel sad, hug yourself and remember curiosity. Curiosity will nurture you when art feels like a challenge.

I'll never really understand artists (writers included) who want to take shortcuts with their work. The joy is IN the work, isn't it? It's in the struggle and stretching and hammering. Anything that speeds up my writing is, I think, probably bad for it.
