I must admit I had a few ales and at some point could be seen stood on a table singing a Spice Girls song. Working in retail did that to you.

In the 90s a popular pub a few minutes walk from my house was The Elizabethan. An odd combo - the place to get an under age pint, but also one of the favourite haunts of United players and certain Manc rock stars. I remember going to an Xmas Eve do with the United lads on the next table to us.

I think I got something like £4 an hour for working at EB in the late 90s. £4 for dealing with all that crap.

Christmas Eve at EB. People would be ducking under the lowering shutters as we were closing "are you still open?" No. And then we'd have three or four hours of preparing the shop for the post-Christmas sale before we could go home. Boxing Day was worse, we had one queue out the door for returns.

One posh women kicked off a big stink with the area manager and HQ. We gave waiting list customers 48 hours to collect Zelda or GoldenEye such was the 100s in a waiting list. She didn't come in during the 48 hours so went to the back of a queue. Shouting and ranting and how we would all be fired.

Posh entitled customers a day or so before Christmas expecting to buy a PlayStation or N64 game that we had hundreds in waiting list and couldn't understand why they couldn't have little Tarquin's present right away. The dawning realisation on their face how much they'd fucked up was fun.

The many people who used their entire dole cheque in EB every week. Who abused the return system, but got angry when we wouldn't take back discs that stank of cigs and weed, and were scratched beyond imagination. And they pronounced the games Alien Tri-ology, and Die Hard Tri-ology.

There was a customer who asked about violence in Command & Conquer and the suitibility for his son. I showed him screenshots. Explained the content. And pointed out images of tiny figures with pixels of blood. He came back a few days later furious with me about this massive bloodshed and gore.

I did two Christmasses working for EB selling videogames in 1997-99. When I first started we had so many old people wanting Candle in the Wind, and didn't understand when I said we sold videogmes not CDs. They'd often argue with me about this - that I was mistaken about what we sold.

I'm sharing this here, as I have on Facebook and Instagram, but there's no account on here to share from, and I just think this is wonderful. A really good balance of design and implementation, and appears to achieve everything it set out to do, and it *SO* appeals to my inner 'work nerd'.

My last workday before Christmas. The last two years I didn't have any holiday left - other than the days the office was shut. This year I've got two and a half glorious weeks of holiday.

Bought the Tomb Raider I-III remake pack on Switch 2 as it's £7 on sale. How did I play the original TR back in the day? It's exhausting just moving around, every time you walk to a wall there's a bumping into the wall animation, and it gets old very quickly.
