The Candle In September 2004, a small black cat called Millie appeared at our door. We let her in, she captured our hearts and never left. She was full of life - funny, sweet, feisty, playful, beautiful. We had to say goodbye on 16 January 2024. This song is a tribute to her - a celebration of her long life and the sadness of saying goodbye. A candle sits on the counter at our vets with a notice saying that, when it is lit, someone is saying goodbye to their beloved pet. I never wanted to be the one they light the candle for but one day, unexpectedly, I was. Anyone who has ever loved a pet will know how hard it is to lose them. They are part of your family and their loss leaves a gaping chasm which can't be filled. Millie was 20 when she left us. When they reach such a good age, you're torn between the knowledge that they can't have much longer but also the feeling that they'll live forever. Millie will live forever in our hearts. RIP our beautiful girl.
