Ending a stressful week of gamedev on a high note

Fired up Skyrim last night and noticed it's just started using the V4 Linux runtime! What the hell @steampowered.com I've been trying to set that for ages on Heat Retreat & still can only see V3 available on the dashboard. I've had a ticket open & without a response for months now too 🫤

Turns out the bug wasn't even in that module at all 😆 The _actual_ problem was, I couldn't remember how to load/use .ron files & the SO page I skimmed to refresh my memory ended with me reading in the file *at compile time*, not runtime 🤦 #rust #bevy Only wasted the whole day tracking that down...

Opening up any code module I haven't touched in more than a few months 😪 Trying to add in "hot reloading" audio tracks via a key combo has me digging into my asset packaging stuff from ages ago #bevy #gamedev #indiedev

Still super busy with code on Heat Retreat but the enhanced status system is coming along nicely. Focusing on using real world models & data (adapted to work in a game context) to give some depth/nuance. No trivial RNG shortcuts here! 💪 #indiegamedev

Crap like this is one of the reasons why I'm vehemently against DRM, online only & all the other anti-consumer shenanigans like this. Games I make are - and always will be - 100% DRM free, no online requirements, no license keys, nothing. You buy it, you keep it, plain and simple.

Can we get this in #Canada too? It's bad enough being thrown under the rug as a small business & getting 0 help when things get bad, plus the arcane rituals required for grant applications (which end up favouring scammers...)

Following on getting the new fatigue model in, it's becoming increasingly critical to show some party status info for players while driving (and improve the party management view) 🤔 Considering some sort of fade in/out effect around the edges but not sold on the idea

Woo, new fatigue model for Heat Retreat is working in game! Retired my old hitpoint system, replaced it with a pure math model (S-curve equation fed into a sinusoidal 24h period for circadian effects) Needs a little fine tuning & has a couple bugs, but it's working as intended 🎉 #gamedev #indiedev
