I made a custom visor shape for Zero's Code Geass helmet! The form is a 3D print that I modeled to be slightly smaller than the helmet hole (for the plastic thickness). I tinted the visor in heated polyester fabric dye.

For the metallic finish on my Mandalorian helmet, I buffed on graphite powder! I protected the finish with a gloss clear coat and then used water-mixable oil paints to add some contrast. #StarWars #TheMandalorian

When making Zero's helmet from Code Geass, I really wanted the back part to fold up just like the helmet does in the movies.

Instead of cutting out individual scales for my dragon egg, I glued on strips of scales which gave the illusion they were attached one at a time! #foamsmith

For Steven Universe's Rose Quartz sword, I decided to use vinyl decals instead of paint! To prevent the stickers from peeling off, I sealed the whole prop in a catalyzed clear coat which locked the stickers in place and gave the sword an automotive shine! #StevenUniverse

Had a local event today and it was great. I held back from telling everyone about sanding.

For our #Satisfactory helmets, we purchased visors and then 3D modeled the helmet to fit around visors! To get the scale and shape correct, we used 3D scans (Polycam) of the visor, and my head, and made sure the imported scans were the same scale as the real world objects.

This 3D printed animatronic necklace concept really did come to life! Sometimes when you're sketching it can feel like the reality is a million miles away. But every journey has to start with a single step. I'll be running demos at @hackaday-feed.bsky.social Supercon 2025, be sure to come say hi!

We want to make Star Wars Snowspeeder pilot costumes (the Snowspeeder is Bill's favorite vehicle!) so we started with the helmets! The visors were vacuum formed from 1/16" PETG plastic.
