I appreciate some of its implementations, but one thing about "AI" is that it has cured me forever of techno-futurism. "Imagine a machine that can take over our..." Let me stop you right there buster

It looks like they both have incredibly heavy hands and Trump has to his credit fucking pushed through it, felt the burn but ultimately got one limply-fisted hand above his shoulder level, while Vance, a cave troll, just said "fuck it"

She said this four years after her guest appearance on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, a show that debuted 5 months after her first appearance on The Office and which is both edgier and still going strong. Her guest IASIP episode was a meta-commentary on how much The Gang gets away with. Mindy!

I want to give a shoutout to Barney Frank. Knowing that death was imminent, he told us all what a complete piece of shit he was so that no one would have to be sad. His funeral will be an unmitigated celebration. Let's all learn from his example.

Mark Fuhrman tried to scam a disability pension in 1981 by claiming white supremacy was a legitimate medical illness. The LAPD decided that he wasn't disabled, but that the racist violence wasn't a problem, and made him keep working. He is burning in hell today, and someday I will shit on his grave.

As I look around it saddens me to realize how much faith I have lost in experts And as I look around it saddens me to realize how much faith I have lost in institutions But as I look around what saddens me the most is realizing how much faith I have lost in other people.

Today is the birthday of artist & letterer Henry Shikuma (April 23, 1922-Nov. 25, 1985). A veteran of WWII, he became an assistant to Walt Kelly on the Pogo comic strip in 1958 and soon took over lettering, beautifully inking over Kelly's blue-pencilled layouts.

Cyndi Lauper's version of "Money Changes Everything" is the gold standard in genderswapped pop songs. By a simple shift of perspective ("she said" → "I said") the song changes from a kinda bitchy complaint about a gold digger to a rumination on surviving capitalism.

We have reached the point historically where artists I have a lot of respect for are implicated in "AI" "art" and I just want to shout futilely into the void: please stop, I want so badly to support artists, sometimes you make it morally ambiguous to do

he’s playing 4 dimensional chess. he’s take the pieces and sticking them up his nose. he’s eating the board. he’s setting the room on fire while he’s inside. he’s drawing something on the wall in his own poop. it’s a giraffe. underneath he’s writing the word elephant. it’s spelled wrong.

Apropos of nothing, I frequently think of that essay Alan Dershowitz wrote about how you can't judge a person who has not been found guilty in a court of law, and how it ends with a paragraph about how Dersh knows how to get guilty people off without a conviction.

You’re pushed on by numbers and punitive measures: pain, rejection, and unpaid bills. You can either play or you can crawl under a boat and waste away -- turn into salt or a flock of seagulls. Your enemies would love that. Or you can fight. The only way to load the dice is to keep on fighting.

I am reminded of the Sokal affair, in which an academic guy purposefully did bad academics just to prove how much he could get away with while still being treated as a serious guy, and I just want to tell the generations to come: I cottoned onto the Ilan Wurman affair early on.
