For shade, workers need enough shade for the entire body to be shaded while in a position of rest. This shade needs to be somewhere workers are able to eat, drink & otherwise take normal rest breaks. There should be a large enough shade for all workers taking a break at once. 3/

In most states, there are no heat safety protections. There are no federal protections specific to heat, either. In order to stay safe, workers at minimum need shade, paid rest breaks, cool water & electrolytes, and information on how to prevent and recognize heat illness. 2/
