Happy writing news: just signed a contract with Interzone Mag for my novelette, “The Five Languages of Grief,” an SF story at the intersection of imperialism and extraction. It will come out in a future Interzone issue, so watch this space! Couldn’t be happier for it to have found a home here.

Talking about SF short fiction feels incomplete without mentioning magazines out there which are swimming against the tide (and AI slop) to keep venues alive for short stories. Consider subscribing or supporting if you are able! Thread of a few:

School pupils are to be taught how to tackle conspiracy theories, spot 'fake news' & root out misinformation. The Daily Mail, ajudged by Wikipedia to be an unreliable new source, is furious. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out why.

Some small measure of hope: 4 of the 9 people with life-threatening injuries have been discharged from hospital, 2 however still remain in life-threatening condition. Hope, they make it too 🤞 🙏 Suspects in custody within 8 min of the call. Seems like a stellar job by emergency services all around!!

I feel as if the brutal realism of the current landscape basically demands weird fiction. This stuff is too much to process it directly on a day-to-day basis. It must be filtered through the weirdest lens until it resembles something like life, like hope or sanity.
