A personal thread about using rhyme in poetry🧵 Despite once being a mainstay of form & despite its persistence in popular song, rhyme has lost favour with many poets. Some eschew it on principle. Others, even those who use it, are nervous of it. To many it seems old-fashioned, trivial, nursery stuff

I don't often do that much #Subtext so thanks to @victoriaspires.bsky.social for the #PromptCombo incentive. I was also inspired by her Late Poppies poem, so here's one I created in November and have edited a wee bit. The original prompt was 5 line vignette, a Proper Noun and onomatopoeia.
