Mortal Kombat 2 Might Not Be Perfect, But It Fixes The First Movie's Biggest Flaw
Video game adaptations can be a tricky beast. They can either go the prestige route like The Last of Us with its Emmy-nominated television series, or be a dreadful reference marathon such as The Minecraft Movie. While 2021ās Mortal Kombat film had a myriad of issues, such as the lack of the tournament that serves as the game series' centerpiece, and a focus on an original character created for the film rather than one of the franchise's existing cast, it had its heart in the right place by trying to honor the original game series. With the expansion of a sequel, the series had the opportunity to course-correct to deliver not only an engaging film, but also one that fans of the series deserve. Iām pleased to report that despite some near-fatal flaws in the storytelling department, Mortal Kombat II is mostly a success. Mortal Kombat II opens with a flashback depicting Outworld ruler Shao Kahn usurping control of the realm of Edenia, and right off the bat, establishes itself as more in tune with the lore of the Mortal Kombat series than the previous movie. The 2021 film struggled in this regard because the film followed Cole Young (Lewis Tan), an original character who served as an audience self-insert. While that route might have worked to bring in audiences who had no prior experience with the games, the decision felt like it went against what Mortal Kombat is: a battle between the six realms for complete control.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Fallout Actor Was "Just As Surprised As Everyone Else" By The Finale's Shocking Reveal
Fallout season two recently wrapped and while the first season eased viewers into the dystopian wasteland created by Bethesda's video games, the show's second season dove deeper into the world in unexpected ways. From introducing the highly popular location of New Vegas, to bringing in popular factions such as Caesarās Legion and the NCR and introducing some of the gameās strangest creatures, season two felt like an expansion in all the right ways. Yet this wasn't all Fallout season two accomplished; season two also laid the foundation for the franchise going forward by introducing a location new to the franchise: Colorado. Recently I was given the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas to sit down with the cast and crew to talk about this seasonās biggest reveals and whatās next for Fallout in season three. One of the most satisfying elements this season was getting status updates on factions such as the Legion and the NCR post-Fallout: New Vegas, which last saw them squaring off in a faction war known as The Battle for the Hoover Dam. The show sets up perhaps the largest faction war the franchise has ever seen, with all these forces marching onto the New Vegas strip for an all-out war. Showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet had this to say about what viewers can expect to see during the incoming conflict: āItās interesting that a lot of these factions have been sort of dormant. One thing we talk about as a show is our excitement to see new civilization start to blossom again. But whose version will flourish in Vegas now that the Deathclaws are gone? Itās a big question that we hope fans are as curious about as we are.āContinue Reading at GameSpot

Fallout Season 2's Finale Might Have Hinted At Where The Next Game Takes Place
All points came to a head this week in New Vegas for the Fallout season two finale. While this season spent a lot of time giving us a glimpse into how the Mojave Wasteland had changed since we last saw it in Fallout: New Vegas, the finale delivered on being an immensely satisfying ending while also setting up bombshells that we canāt wait to see play out in season three. With lots of build up comes lots of opportunity to slip in easter eggs and references from the video games and beyond, so letās take a look at what was shown this week. Caesarās Palace The finale showed Legate Lacerta (Macaulay Culkin) take over the Legion as the new Caesar. After committing bloodthirsty acts of murder, he promises to lead the Legion to the New Vegas strip with hopes of building a new āpalaceā for them to call their own. This is a winking nod to the real life Caesarās Palace resort and casino located on the Las Vegas strip. Opened in 1966, it's one of the oldest operating hotels in Las Vegas and features impeccable Roman theming. The resort was most famously featured as the main setting for the 2009 film The Hangover.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Fallout Season 2 Episode 8 Just Set Up The Biggest Faction War The Fallout Universe Has Ever Seen
Fallout season two's long journey has finally reached its end. While this season spent a lot of time following our heroes through Mojave Wasteland, last week set up the final stakes. The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) made his way into the Lucky 38 and reactivated Mr. House (Justin Theroux), Maximus (Aaron Moten) found his fight against the vicious Deathclaws bleed into Freeside, and Lucy (Ella Purnell) faced a moral dilemma as she came face-to-face with the mainframe of the Automated Man devices, which are now fully functioning thanks to her father Hank (Kyle Maclaclan). With all these storylines finally reaching their apexes, it's time to dive into what choices our heroes made. The episode opens up with a bloody civil conflict amongst Caesarās Legion. In the chaos, Lacerta Legate (Macaulay Culkin) manages to get his hands on Caesarās corpse and drag it to his tent where he learns that his final will was for the Legion to die with him. Refusing this fate for the Legion, Lacerta kills the nearby soldiers and destroys the will, taking the golden laurels for himself. Officially crowning himself as the new Caesar, he unites the Legion and vows to march into New Vegas to establish a new āPalace.ā This is met with thunderous applause.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Did Fallout Season 2 Episode 7 Hint That The Worst Fallout: New Vegas Ending Could Be Canon?
With The Ghoul reactivating Mr. House, Lucy discovering the mainframe of her fatherās devices, and Maximus having to protect Freeside, the penultimate episode of Fallout season two raised the stakes for an all-out finale in New Vegas. Yet for as much time as this episode dedicated to building up relationships and faction statuses, episode seven still delivered the goods when it came to action and references to the original games. With that being said, letās dive right in to this weekās easter eggs: New (California) Threads When The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) and Maximus realize they need to stock up to battle the Deathclaws that are overrunning the strip, they head to a secret New California Republic armory. While at first nothing seems to stand out amongst the arsenal of weapons, a single piece stands out: an NCR themed suit of power armor. While weāre not quite sure why this even exists, thereās no denying the power of good brand recognition. Not A Ghoul But Something Much Worse Throughout the episode, Thaddeusā (Johnny Pemberton) condition worsens. Curious as to when his nose will fall off, he shows The Ghoul an alarming new mutation heās developed: a gaping mouth growing in the center of his chest (in addition to his arm falling off). Now while itās not quite confirmed what exactly he turning into, itās definitely not a ghoul. For my money, heās showing signs of turning into a Centaur. One of the most horrifying creatures in the Fallout universe.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Fallout Episode 7 Raised The Stakes For The Finale
Fallout Season 2's penultimate entry, Episode 7, puts all the chips are on the table. While Lucy (Ella Purnell) is with Hank (Kyle Maclaclan) in the Vault-Tec executive bunker, The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) finally partied up with Maximus (Aaaron Moten) and Thaddeus (Johnny Pemberton) in the wake of the chaos at Area 51. Meanwhile, Norm (Moises Arias) discovered that Vault 33 is set to be used for an experiment involving the āForced Evolutionary Virusā and Overseer Stephanie (Annabel OāHagan) struggles with her authoritarian rule over Vault 32 while prepping for her wedding to the unwilling Chet (Dave Register). With the odds stacked against all of our main players, can someone take the jackpot, or does the house always win? The episode opens up with a pre-war flashback on the Canadian border. Now a territory of the United States, two prisoners manage to escape an internment camp and run through the woods toward the border. The prisoners are revealed to be Stephanie and her mother, fighting for a better life than the one they have as prisoners in Canada. As they near the border, theyāre stopped by a Marine in USMC Power Armor. Hope seems lost for a brief moment, until another prisoner appears, and turns out to be a suicide bomber--killing the Marine in the resulting blast. While Stephanie and her mother manage to get away, her mother is injured from the explosion and, as she dies, motivates Stephanie to make it to the border by any means needed, even if it means killing innocent people. As Stephanie crosses the border into the United States, sheās stopped by a Border Patrol guard and prepares for her first kill.Continue Reading at GameSpot
