TL;dr there was massive growth in the industry from around 2020-2022 due to low interest rates (money easier/cheaper to borrow) and a huge increase in demand for games due to people being stuck at home bc of covid. Now that growth has stalled or reversed and the shareholders “need” (1/4)

Heaving a very weary sigh— NEW: I spoke to those impacted by layoffs within XBOX's accessibility teams to try and understand the scale of those cuts and what they mean for accessibility going forward. It's all pretty bleak, but there *are* tiny shreds of hope.

UPDATE: A WARN notice filed in Texas indicates 136 employees have been laid off at id Software, with another 22 people roles being cut at Bethesda Game Studios' office in Austin. Out of those 158 workers being laid off in Texas, 146 are represented by labor union Communication Workers of America.
