Just chucked Sintel onto my NAS and was impressed to see Plex recognises it! Now I can cry for Scales with ease even if the Internet goes down.

Decided to make a new planet as I've not done that in a good long while. Not started in Blender yet but spent the last couple of hours in Krita putting together a seamless (horizontally) texture.

Edited together some shots from yesterday's walk around Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton. These were all down by the White Bridge. Beautiful little spot. Lessons learned: Take longer shots as editing together short ones is tedious. Pick somewhere with less hazards

For any MacOS users: I noticed a huge drop in battery life after the 26 update. Strongly recommend updating to the beta 26.1, seems to have resolved it.

Seen a lot of for and against rows over the new MacOS 26 online. Installed the beta so I could see what camp I fall into. Turns out, im in the "meh" camp. Looks a bit different, does the same stuff, who cares π€£

Considering picking up a DJI Mini 4K to get into drone flying. Figure with all the waiting around I do in scenic locations it'd be a good hobby to pass the time.

There is something not quite right about remoting into a Windows machine from MacOS π€£ I've converted my workstation to all be powered from a docked MacBook. The monitor, speakers, K&B, etc all plugs into that. My Windows box is now connected only via ethernet for rendering/AI/remote gaming.

Little day-off project. Modelled and printed a little holder for my laptop dock, usb hub, and audio interface. The one cable (on the right) powers my laptop as well as connecting my screen, speakers, microphone, keyboard/mouse, and ethernet to it.

Got around to some BeatSaber today, I've been pretty lazy with it since I started working out of the house, but gonna try and fight my way back. Gotta fight off all the roll and sausage I've been eating π€£ (It's more comical if you imagine me lip syncing to the words and exuding cringe dad vibes.)

What makes VDM different from normal displacement: Standard displacement moves vertices along the surface normal (up/down). VDM uses a 3D vector (x, y, z) per pixel, allowing full spatial displacement, so it can create overhangs, folds, etc

I'm about a week into owning a Macbook Air, my first Apple device. I'd previously sworn never to get one but the battery life swayed me given the new job driving coaches... lots of free time out and about. Gotta say, so far, I'm pretty damn impressed with the thing.

Just setup Flamenco on my Home Lab. Now I can render from anywhere in the world, on any device that supports Blender, and it'll send the job to my home workstation. What a time to be alive.

I'm gonna have to expand my little home lab soon I think, got more and more stuff running locally now. Including LLM and Image Gen stuff. Best part is with Tailscale running on my phone and laptop, I can access it all outside of the house without exposing it via the the router. I love this crap :)

Using LoRA's with Flux is amazing. You can generate multiple images with the character largely staying consistent. In this example of Taylor Momsen as an Aracane character I used two, one for Taylor that I made myself and one trained on Jinx that I downloaded.

I know AI is the source of all evil, but I've been having a lot of fun this week playing around with Flux/InvokeAI. Makes the early days of midjourney look pathetic by comparison π€£ Trained a model on my wife and the results are do good I'm considering doing a tutorial on model/lora training.

As I'm heading back to coach driving, I needed a way to remotely use my machine. RDP handles the remote desktop part, I've configured Home Assistant to send a magic packet to wake it up if it's off, and I can SSH in to restart/shutdown. Not gonna lie, I geeked out a bit once it was all working :)

Hey NAS enthusiasts. Any case suggestions for a NAS that can fit an itx/matx board as well as a full size GPU? Looking to make a rendering/AI slave VM inside a NAS. The smaller half-height GPUs won't cut it.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story:

Messing about with a geonode water setup with scattering that moves with the surface. Currently theres some odd pop in/out that I've not quite figured out, but its getting there.

Did a little test with my particle trails today by feeding it through into a volume. It won't make it in as a preset for my addon, as it's definitely sub-par... but was a fun experiment. Hoping the volume tools in geonodes improves in the future though.

In my ongoing quest to keep things local rather than "in the cloud" I ditched Dropbox over the weekend in favour of using the SynologyDrive app on my NAS. Works the same, incremental backups, offline-files, etc... all from the comfort of my own home :) (Still backup the NAS to the cloud though.)

One irritating thing about making the presets for the trails... dealing with cyclic/non-cyclic. Currently I'm having to create two node trees, one for each and then switch them out via an attribute. Which means, double the material work π’
