This is the side of filmmaking I've always loved. A team coming together to create a stunning visual moment, using nothing more than their collective creative instincts and some simple tools and parts.

I think others have already more eloquently stated the concerns and issues around AI writing (and the misogynoir on display in how recent news has been discussed). So all I'll say is this: I will never use AI in my writing in any capacity. What's on the page has been pulled bloody from my brain.

What I read in February. #books #amreading

WHERE ARE YOU REALLY FROM by @elainehsiehchou.bsky.social was such a wonderful surprise. I was drawn in by the cover art's liminal aesthetic, and then I was entranced by the character work and the prose. "Mail Order Love", "Carrot Legs", and "Featured Background" all deeply moved me.

What I read in November. #amreading

This is also why theaters like Alamo Drafthouse, which actually enforce no-phone policies, are so important. But when you’re streaming, leave the phone in another room, curl up with a blanket, and get engrossed in the film - in every detail.

I still remember when there was an uproar about U2 and Apple forcing an unwanted album onto our devices. Now, basically every other day companies are like, "Hey we own all your info now, thanks. I guess you can manually turn it off if you want, but we'll make your experience horrible."

Genuinely dystopian how "taking pictures of strangers without their consent" has become a genre of online content. And I don't get what's purportedly performative about these photos. Reading books at coffee shops, the airport, and on the subway? God forbid!

Hey so “underage girls” are…children. The word you’re looking for is children. They’re not like, women-in-waiting or women-lite or whatever. They’re children. I think some of you are very uncomfortable with what that means for you but it is still true.

Don't forget that Zohran Mamdani spent his entire campaign standing proudly beside the trans community. He went to trans rights rallies just to show support. He proudly waved trans rights flags without hesitation. He refused to back down in support of trans rights. That makes me happy.

I keep returning to this clip. I came of age during the alt-right YouTube days where "pwning feminism" drove clicks. And I'm watching it all happen again, this time with billionaires funding and fueling boys' insecurities, creating broken, toxic men who hate everyone - including themselves.

Watching VHS Halloween and enjoying it so far, though I noticed what looks like an AI photo in the first short film. It's a small detail, especially in a very well directed short film (with some great creature and set design) but that makes the usage of AI all the more disappointing.
