#TheMandalorianAndGrogu spoilers: Rotta is his father’s son, but he’s not his father. Like other SW characters, he has a path not of pure evil, but something different. The moment he offered Grogu his snacks out of genuine care was a sign that he had a special soft side, and that’s beautiful.

Cause it's less about the money and more about people wishcasting this movie to fail. Lot of people have made it their mission to just shit on this one movie.

Also, I'm fairly certain swole Jabba the Hutt is Deigo Luna's kink so... I'm happy for him. That alone makes the movies worth it.

This plus apparently audience scores are very high after seeing it. Especially among kids, which is funny considering all the talk about Star Wars no longer appealing to kids. Like considering it’s been 7 years since the franchise has been in theaters this is a pretty good opening weekend.

People see what they want to see and adjust the facts to their preexisting opinion. It's not the flop they want it to be, but they won't even admit that to themselves, much less to anyone else. So they squeeze every drop out of "box office could be better" that they can.

Toxic "fans" are not fans.

I think the only way to see it as a failure is to argue that it’s bad for the SW brands narrative, which I’m mixed on. It’s a step up in Disney’s SW theatrical output, but it’s not a big swing or an indicator of what Disney intends. In a healthier SW franchise, I think we’d see it as a big win.

I find it wild that people are going “Mandalorian and Grogu is a failure. Worst Star Wars opening ever”. By raw numbers, sure. But it had a $165 million opening with a $165 mil budget and a smaller marketing campaign compared to Ep9’s $500 mil budget and huge campaign. It seems like a success to me.
