A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

We don't have to live like this.

I hope all the people who did their darndest to create a "we went too far on policing" narrative in the post-2020 whitelash see that their blathering apologism justifies every fascist thing ICE, the FBI, the DEA, and other law enforcement agencies are doing rn.

And this is all without the new breakthroughs in solar and batteries coming to market in the next few years increasing efficiency and energy density substantially. I've never been this hopeful about the ability to shift entirely to clean renewable energy in my lifetime.

The same is true for our City infrastructure like roads and sidewalks. Councils of the past were obsessed with keeping taxes artificially low, so they “kicked the can down the road”. Eventually, though, things fail and must be replaced. The downside - there’s a higher cost to doing it later.

Something that is easy to forget in all the "Carney is a political genius / Carney is a political naif" argle bargle is that climate policies matter. Environmental regulations matter. Getting rid of them may or may not achieve a political end — but it's guaranteed to have real-world implications.

If you expect Mark Carney won't take pipeline blame whether it's built or not, I have bad news for you: opposition parties aren't going to be charitable in their framing and voters aren't always charitable, or consistent, themselves. Carney will be seen as Captain Pipeline.
