Every parent and educator in Ontario needs to be alarmed that Paul Calandra is visiting charter schools. His government has starved our public schools of resources. The next page in the Conservative playbook is to offer privatization as the solution to problems they caused.

I noticed some folks talking about the "Fortress Am-Can plan" today, so I finally published this video I started ages ago. Don't let Doug and his corporate buddies scam you. Ontario deserves better.

Amazing thread! “…Great powers using the economy as weapons is the story of the climate crisis. It's the story of the housing crisis, & skyrocketing grocery costs. It's our central story.”

Cllr Francis witnessed a baby being born inside a winter tent last year, but when he needed an example of "wasted" spending taking money from a local hockey arena, he cited spending on the housing project that gets 80 people out of winter tents, rather than 9 metres worth of Rymal Rd widening.

ICE are abducting 5 year olds, using them as bait to get to their family, and shipping them to a Texas concentration camp all in a single day. We need a Nuremberg for everyone involved. Abolish ICE isn't enough.

Council just unanimously voted to change City policy - the new 'community liaison groups' will not be open to the public. This Council term has seen even further decreases in transparency --- the opposite of the promises every single member of council ran on during the 2022 election.

And this is all without the new breakthroughs in solar and batteries coming to market in the next few years increasing efficiency and energy density substantially. I've never been this hopeful about the ability to shift entirely to clean renewable energy in my lifetime.

None of this is “good faith political debate,” and it’s not a coincidence that all these outlets are suddenly interested in the same “discussion” at the same time. Treating women’s humanity like a thought exercise makes it that much easier to legislate away

The same is true for our City infrastructure like roads and sidewalks. Councils of the past were obsessed with keeping taxes artificially low, so they “kicked the can down the road”. Eventually, though, things fail and must be replaced. The downside - there’s a higher cost to doing it later.

Something that is easy to forget in all the "Carney is a political genius / Carney is a political naif" argle bargle is that climate policies matter. Environmental regulations matter. Getting rid of them may or may not achieve a political end — but it's guaranteed to have real-world implications.

If you expect Mark Carney won't take pipeline blame whether it's built or not, I have bad news for you: opposition parties aren't going to be charitable in their framing and voters aren't always charitable, or consistent, themselves. Carney will be seen as Captain Pipeline.

Households aren't spending as much. Less on cars, less on international travelling (esp to the U.S.) More on rent and, ahem, financial services. In aggregate, more savings. [Noted by StatCan: Distributionally, more savings at the top, not the bottom. ]

Falling for anti-migrant racism doesn't protect workers, it entrenches capitalism by making workers more vulnerable & exploitable! Our enemy arrives in limousine, not someone on a boat fleeing colonial devastation. Being pro-migrant is central to our collective fight against fascism!

If war were just human nature, it would not be so deeply long-term traumatizing to participate in war. If war were just human nature, military training would not amount to psychological torture. If war were just human nature, there would be no need to pump literal billions into pro-war propaganda.
