This is going to come down as a referendum on Joel Embiid, because most things do. And his defensive mobility is an issue, especially since the Jaylen Brown incident late in the Boston series. But he's one of the few on the Sixers that's actually fighting tonight.

I had no fewer than four optimistic discussions about the Sixers with strangers today. More sixers gear than I've seen in ages. I think the people are back on board

So darn happy for our guys. Just so darn happy. Could have given up so many times this year, hell, in this SERIES, and they just β¦ kept β¦ fighting. For each other. For the franchise. For Philly. Hellofa win, men. Hell of a win. Onward to NYC.

Joel Embiid dragged the Sixers to the finish line on a night he did everything his skeptics have always said he would never do in a game like this. After what he did, it was only right that the best teammate he has ever had took the final step. They won:

Instant observations: Joel Embiid's dominant performance helps Sixers avoid Game 7 collapse and win series
The Sixers nearly coughed up an 18-point lead in Game 7, but were able to escape and pull off a 3-1 series comeback against the Celtics.

For all the talk about Joel's whistle, I've never seen a player get a worse one on flagrant considerations. Unbelievable call there on the blocking foul *and* the flagrant

Embiid doing this -- calmly getting to his unguardable spots, making the right reads to teammates when slasher film double teams come running at him, summoning all the rim protection juice he has left -- in a G7 in Boston a few weeks after emergency surgery. I'm proud of and in love with our guy.

Genuinely emotional thinking about how it looked like Game 6 against the Knicks might be the last meaningful game Joel played, and now he's picking apart his greatest boogieman in Game 7
