After a big code rebasing of Deep Six, I'm finally bringing assets back into the game, making new textures, and blocking out a demo level. I can break my long silence now and start sharing stuff that's easy on the eyes.

Our GodotFest proposal got accepted! It'll be a long talk with the title: >Plants, Polygons and Pixels: Large-Scale Vegetation Rendering in Godot We'll discuss how to create optimized 3D foliage assets, how to scatter them, lots of shading tricks, and LOD systems. Hope to see some of you there :)

Once worked with a writer that claimed of made 10 D&D modules. I didn't question it, because WHO would lie about that...? 1-2 months into the project, mimimal writing done... I casually ask to see the modules. His response: "I didn't write them down." π Bro wtf.

Seeing the work put into the Monster's AI/State Machine for Amnesia: The Bunker is what inspired me to consider re-working Balm into a roaming boss/encounter. 40 states for a statemachine is beautifully insane. He has around 20k lines of code for his AI logic. That's absolutely mad.

I originally wanted three major bosses before the final boss of the game; But I'm considering reworking "Balm" into a roaming Mr. X/Nemesis style encounter throughout the game. What do you guys think? This increases scope unfortunately. So It's not a priority or guaranteed change.

Interesting to see that FROMSOFT's grayboxing tools seems to be a 1:1 functionality on par with Trenchbroom for the Quake games. It gives me a deeper understanding of their design process. They are probably the most unique and talented company in terms of design philosophy.

Taking this screenshot for a before/after 5 months from now. I'm really a fan of seeing the entire world/game early on to set scale, and atmosphere. The game is instanced zones, but you can always see the surrounding areas.

Happy 25th Anniversary to one of the core games that shaped me as a game designer. It was also the first game that introduced me to Yoshitaka Amano, and Nobuo Uematsu. From there it was just a rabbit hole.

Head tracking in Godot is incredibly easy, and it looks very creepy on this goober. I plan to add kind of "pack tactic" as part of this goblins state machine, and make goblins smarter/harder to fight in numbers.
