I genuinely don’t understand what replication means in the context of most political science research. How do you “replicate” a study that uses historical data, or even data from 5 years ago?

What if we treated people’s socially conservative values and preferences as real preferences that should be taken seriously (even if we disagree) rather than assuming that they’ve been brainwashed?
