Studland Bay memorial to the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards who died on 4 April 1944. Cecil Newton lived in Aldbourne and spent a lifetime honouring his fallen comrades. Cecil died, aged 101, just days before Aldbourne commemorated VE Day 80. The apple tree planted in his name is about to blossom.

Blooming beautiful blossom by Aldbourne Pond this morning. The cherry tree was planted in 1976 as a memorial for Mr Oliver Hawkins (1889-1975). Heritage Centre now open at weekends. Staffed by enthusiastic volunteers. To check opening times please visit aldbourneheritage.org.uk

13 November 1925 newspapers reported that Aldbourne's Four Barrows were selected for official preservation as just one of many sites (over 70 according to the paper) on 'Wiltshire's numerous list' (photo 2011)
