The story here is increasingly about the right’s reaction — the incitement, the calls for war, the effort to use this terrible incident to neuter opposition. Also, I’ve noticed a consistent pattern of right wing pundits linking Trump’s PA shooting to “the left,” despite the fact that the shooter had no clear politics, was in fact a registered REPUBLICAN (but also once gave $15 to ActBlue), and clearly was suffering a major mental health crisis.

As someone noted, for the right, Kirk is the new Israel.

Klein's argument here boils down to arguing that Kirk engaged in nonviolent, legal political persuasion efforts, and it's terrible that someone murdered him for that. Sure. But Kirk did that dishonestly, and often cynically. And that falls short of "doing politics the right way" even in 2025.
