It's insane to me that multiple gov'ts around the globe are trying to age gate app stores and the web but just pouring money into the AI ecosystem that produces items like these and far worse outcomes for kids.

7️⃣ years ago, 7 of our members filed complaints against Google over its tracking of users’ locations. A lot can happen in 7 years: the GDPR was reformed, Europeans born in 2018 are now in primary school, and the people below joined our digital & enforcement teams! Yet, this case is still pending⏱️

Seems like a bold legal strategy to claim you can't be held liable for users harming or killing themselves because of your product, since suicide and self-harm is against your ToS.

Ten or twenty years ago, if an executive came out and said "actually our products can't be trusted" the stock would take a nosedive rather than go up.

Obviously shitty to do this instead of paying artists, but the few times I’ve dipped into CoD the series already pretty much felt like AI slop.

Data collection at scale is a national security issue. This trading is happening even with GDPR protections. And yet the Commission is advocating changes that would remove such data from the scope of the regulation.

We’re at the strange point where serious studies are finding that, when used as advertised, generative AI destroys productivity, trust and cognitive skills. It literally cannot ever produce reliably accurate information. Yet the conclusion here is that businesses need to learn how to use AI better.

What a terrible take. As someone who engaged at a policy level with the ePrivacy Directive (& its predecessor 97/66EC), the ePD didn’t ’plaster the online world with pop-ups’. Privacy invading & eroding business models are responsible for that - biz could have chosen a different path

I opened a draft I need to read and give feedback on for a PhD student and my university software suggested I just use Copilot to summarise it. This is not a good strategy for universities. Does your university put Copilot front and centre in your workflow? Where are the debates about this?
