Tried to decouple my characters from their physics. It was a bad move. Turns out suddenly changing the root of my characters from a CharacterBody2D to a Node2D breaks a lot of things and nuked my whole project lol. Good thing for version control. #Godot

Running into weird #Godot issues while trying to safely edit the SceneTree using @tool scripts. Searched online to see if there's safe ways to do this but just see people frustrated with the same thing and calling it buggy lol. At least I'm not the only one 🙃

#GameDev pro tip if you're trying to make a system and aren't sure where to even begin. Find an existing moddable game that you think handles it well, then look up the documentation (like UI for example). From there you can copy the API and try to fill out and adapt it from there!

Does anyone use an OLED monitor for #GameDev ? Do you notice a big difference or is it mostly just nice to have? I want one so bad, but they're so expensive 😅 I think I may be asking so I can justify a purchase rather then actually see if it's useful lol.

Ahh I love it when you get a game idea that neatly ties your systems together and strengthens cohesion. I think it's okay to go multiple un-cohesive game routes at once, as they might elegantly tie together later. #GameDesign really is an evolving process based on iteration. #gamedev

PSA to #Android #Mobile #gamedev s: The new Android release is adding an "auto theme" feature and will turn your icon into monochrome so it can be themed. I like this change overall, but it's important to know in case it messes up your icon. I believe this was already the behavior on iOS.

Game puzzle idea: Have a mechanic where lights in the room affect triggers and whatnot, but have the light switch be toggled by your OS system dark mode.

What is with the weird trend in AAA gaming where their on-screen GUI prompts are rendered at like 30 fps or something. I always find it jarring, and is that really something that needs to be cut down on?

For #ScreenshotSaturday , I'm showing off a small detection tool that checks when my objects aren't sitting sitting pixel perfect (red highlights). I also modify all velocities so that my characters instead land on rounded pixel positions instead of a sub-pixel coordinate. #gamedev #godot #pixelart

On my #Godot wishlist, I think it'd be nice to be able to define UID's in a GDScript file, like @uid(example_uid_here) at the top. It would save tracking a loose file and keep all the advantages of UIDs imo.

The Kirby Air Ride demo is pretty fun and feels a lot like the GameCube version, but honestly I find the controls really awkward. So many things share a button and there's a ton of duplicate mappings. A lot of these actions could just be dedicated buttons. Also I keep wiggling seemingly at random.

I'm way too easily distracted in #godot I wanted to sit down and finish my custom tile system, but instead spent hours overly optimizing on a small related debug tool. But wow is there a *huge* performance improvement when you avoid using _process() and trigger from signals instead!

Question for #Godot mobile devs. If my game runs well and is tested on Android, does it mostly just work on #iOS as well? Also is it possible to compile and test my game on iOS without owning an iPhone/iPad, or MacBook? Do you need the developer fee to run test Godot on iOS devices?

I can tell I've really leveled up as a programmer these past few months since when I make changes, the scope of change breakage remains small. My day job isn't tech related, but I've been listening to the audiobook "Clean Architecture" by Robert C Martin and it's totally changed my thinking!

I think it would be unironically a good idea to add a remote LLM built-in to Godot to generate translations. Would be great as a plugin, just like store your API key and pick an open-router LLM.

I absolutely adore #pokemon ZA's music. But man it clearly uses the V/S engine and I see tons of asset reuse. Still no voice acting too. Very baffling choices for a massive budget game in 2025.

Ugh, still have a very rough idea on where I want to go with my art style and the feeling I want to create, but still feel far away from fully realizing it. Once again messing with shaders and playing with color remapping. Maybe I need to add some kind of color correcting since there's too many situations where the lighting goes too extreme. I want a softer saturated look, and my characters will have strong black outlines. #godot #gamedev #pixelart

While working on my debug tool, it seems to uncover some strange oddities about the #GodotEditor . My tool is essentially just a parser for Node.get_orphan_node_ids(), and when ran inside of a tool script it seems to show orphans in #godot itself. I'm assuming these are orphaned for caching?

I just can't seem to achieve the lighting with Directional Lighting in #Godot in 2D. Gonna make the attempt to 2.5D, which I wanted to eventually do anyways for physics collision. I plan on staying orthographic and not perspective like Octopath, so it shouldn't be too visual and will let me cheat.

Why do zero games target the MSIX instead of exe? I don't know much about it, other then it's newer and on the Win Store, but does it have any performance benefits? An actual competent package format like Android's APKs seems beneficial, but nobody seems to use it?

Ugh idk if I should be mad or not about the convoluted system I've built over like 6 months for a pixel-perfect camera solution in Godot. But I've just rewritten a new version that's only like 5 lines of code and no dependencies 🙃
