Been trying to test how far I can push godot performance if I disable most rendering features, this runs 3456x2234 @ ~400fps on a 2021 laptop. Surprisingly SSAO fits into this. Games are blurry and slow now so I've been getting mesmerized with how well minecraft runs at native 4k (also ~400fps).

lowkey it's very cool that godot lets you mess with transform matrices right from inspector it helps a lot to have an intuitive understanding of how they work in gamedev especially when making shaders

Best thing about godot is that even if something sucks it's never GG. There are lowlevel apis for everything and you can always change the source code You may not at the time have the skills or resources to do that, but the fact that no problem is unsolvable makes all the difference in the long run

I was todays years old when I learned that in godot if you make a category with a name that has a matching editor icon the inspector will use that icon for the category

most of the time when I get stuck on something not working when programming it's not because of bugs but because of some stupid ass shit like I forgot to reload an addon or I was testing a wrong git branch 😂

another blender mapping tip - the quickest vanilla way to call Follow Active Quads is Right Click + F in the UV panel. it lets you continue a tiling texture from active face to newly extruded walls if the active face is not a rectangle just make it into one by running Unwrap on it first

took me a bit too long to learn how easy it is to fill vertex color on selection in blender (1/2 to switch to face or vertex, W to select, Ctrl+X to fill selection, then you can do paint->smooth vertex colors if you need to)
