Moffat literally weaponised *the dark* and we haven't come up with a single other episode idea for them. How? These are the easiest villains to write for, they don't have to talk if you don't need to, you can write a narrative around escaping them, cheap as hell...

You can use them as an iconic link to the past but they're not some huge mythos antagonist - the mythology of the story happened around them, you can reintroduce them so easily cause they're such a simple concept - *living shadows*. Absolutely bring them back.

IMO Doctor Who is missing a huge opportunity to do something with the Vashta Nerada again. Probably the most iconic monster that has never returned at this point. They are so famous that their catchphrase is a part of British cultural lexicon. Revival nostalgia should be utilised more.

Curious if Williams told them to piss off or if JKR wants such a clean abrupt cutoff that even the music which is STILL considered iconic and beloved despite everything is off-limits.
