Banning diesel generators is a keystone climate policy. Without it, both climate change and decarb progress are driving accelerating diesel adoption and use- and those generators are outcompeting batteries right when the grid needs more storage. An incredible vicious cycle that we can just turn off!

Why doesn't that count as a safety requirement? In what world are we in where that isn't even worth mentioning anymore? Is the theory here that if we stop talking about it, it stops being a threat? Why have "climate energy nerds" dropped climate? Why aren't we reacting to how significant that is?

Just to lay this out clearly: in a country like the US, we are talking about *huge* volumes of greenhouse gas emissions from expected data centre growth in the US. Do these solutions (batteries, flex etc) actually reduce this? If so, by how much? How quickly? Why isn't anyone asking?

The basic question, one which is very very very noticeably not being asked, is this: what is the net effect on a grid's emissions, even with generous assumptions of HUGE amounts of batteries, demand response, grid utilisation etc, if you have a large volume of data centre growth?

I've listened to three separate podcasts about the way batteries, demand flexibility and grid utilisation for data centres and *not a single one* addresses the question of whether these things actually erase the emissions / climate impact of data centre growth. The focus is solely on power prices
