#OTD in 1975, Japanese #mountaineer Junko Tabei became the first woman to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. #Japan Just 12 days before reaching the summit, her camp at 6,300m was struck by an avalanche. Tabei was buried under the snow and lost consciousness before being rescued by her Sherpa guides.

The indomitability of these people is so deeply impressive.
