This is "The Wharfe at Arthington Viaduct" by John Cooper from c.1933. The title is "descriptive" because he never exhibited a picture with this title & the reverse of the painting holds no clues. It is "possible" that it is "Valley of the Wharfe" from 1933 but I can't be sure #JohnCooper #Yorkshire

This is a sketch of "St Mary's, Wanstead" by Elwin Hawthorne for an oil with the title of "Wanstead" from his one man show at Alex. Reid & Lefevre in 1938. Each year on #ArmisticeDay I post "Mutt & Jeff" by Henry Silk which dates from c.1931. Henry served in the trenches on the Western Front & was gassed, along with so many of his comrades. The ribbons on his medals are transposed, which was not uncommon. #HenrySilk #LestWeForget

This is "The Guardian Angels" by Elwin Hawthorne from 1931. As one can see from Elwin's painting notes, his view was taken "from the corner of Cottage Grove" which one can see on the map (courtesy of @natlibscotmaps). "Cottage Grove" is now known as Rhonda Grove. #ElwinHawthorne #EastLondonGroup

This is "The Window" by Archibald Hattemore from 1931 which was the last year that Arch exhibited with the Group. The painting was once owned by the American fashion designer, Bill Blass. #ArchibaldHattemore #EastLondonGroup

This is "Appledore" by John Cooper from 1935. The tower on the horizon was Chanter's Folly which was, very sadly, demolished in October 1952. It had fallen in to disrepair & it had been deemed to be unsafe. #JohnCooper #Appledore #EastLondonGroup

In the same year, Brynhild showed 2 versions of "Interior", one priced at 10 Guineas & the other one at 15 Guineas. This is "Boots & Polish" by Henry Silk which is undated but I suspect that it comes from c.1931-32. Henry was, by all accounts, almost a recluse, (his nephew, Elwin Hawthorne painted a picture of Henry with that title) so a lot of his work features "close-up" images like this. #HenrySilk

This is "The Boatyard" by John Cooper from 1935. I'd love to know where it might have been painted but, to date, all efforts to locate the spot have evaded me. At the time, Cooper was painting in Lyme Regis & Charmouth so I think that it must be along the Dorset coast. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
