I first meet Michael at a ISA conference in Taiwan as a PhD student presenting my research on Danish sociology. Years later he still remembers a me and took time to discuss my work and research. I brilliant and passionate sociologist. A true loss for the discipline.

Please let me join the chorus to express my sadness of the tragic loss of Michael Burawoy. He was an intellectual giant and admirably driven by a fierce commitment to uniting political values AND scientific rigor. I met him as an undergrad 31 years ago. He was also very kind & warm. What a life!
