Where did this idea that placeholder art must look like shit come from. The point of placeholder art is to accomplish its goal (layout, lighting, playtest, etc) with the minimal effort possible. No part of that is “also needs to look terrible” (sometimes that would even breaks its goal).

It should be a legal requirement for a company to release a public list of affected employees (with employed role & contact info) when they make a large-scale layoff.

Placeholder assets in a game should look obnoxiously temporary, so obvious that no one would mistake it for the final asset. In past games we've used the doge dog (rip) as an icon, hot pink versions of characters, our CEO's head, etc. If you use a temp asset that seems passable, it may stay there.

TL;DR Unity -> Godot transition: after 13 years in unity, it took me 4-6 weeks of getting adjusted, and now i’ll never go back. it has quirks, like other engines. there’s bugs. but it’s free, basically equally capable, and well reported issues get fixed quicker than in unity (sometimes within hours)

Extremely amazing to see a FOSS game engine be basically on-par visually to multi-billion dollar game engines.

Honestly, the results of ChatGPT is getting progressively worse. Many more mistakes compared to a few years ago. You also have to ask it more questions to eventually get to a somewhat usable answer. LLM snake eating it's own data-tail?

I've seen 2 week projects become immensely successful. I've seen 5 year projects fail spectacularly. The time invested into something has barely any relevance to its success. Whether the time was used properly is much more of a positive indication, and only you, the creator, can influence that.
