This month, in addition to our regular newsletter, we wanted to share an update (🔗 in comments) about the political events that took place last week, and on a cheerier note more about #RefugeeWeek Migrants, people seeking asylum and refugees are NOT strangers! 🧡

The govt is missing the point. We need a strategy to lift people out of poverty, a focus on the cost of living and housing crises, not further curbs on immigration. Pandering to the far-right, with his ‘island of strangers’ speech is a callous and dangerous move by PM that will hurt us all.

The step-up in anti-migrant rhetoric from the government is shameful and dangerous. Migrants are our neighbours, friends and family. To suggest that Britain risks becoming “an island of strangers” because of immigration mimics the scaremongering of the far-right.

Starmer proudly announced that 24,000 migrants have been removed from UK since Labour took office. Being tough on migration & increasing the number of deportations affects the most marginalised people, those who have no other option. When will the message get through that we need safe routes?
