The minimum income guarantee is a way forward for this and more. The coming AI “revolution” will see many roles just disappear, the same as happened in the Industrial Revolution. Back then, there was widespread destitution, it took the state decades to catch up. The MIG is one way to counter that.

Unpaid carers face poorer health, with many living with disabilities.These carers face a potential "double whammy" from proposed social security cuts alongside the loss of support for person they care for. Already insufficient household incomes face cuts that will push more into greater poverty.

Today's session with the Scottish Parliament's Social Justice and Social Security Committee was an opportunity to express the huge concern organisations across Scotland have about impact of proposed cuts to key benefits for disabled people and unpaid carers. Quite simply, they will be devastating.

As well as its devastating effect on disabled people, planned government cuts could also see 150,000 people lose their entitlement to carers’ benefits. Support needs don't change just because the state says you're "not disabled enough" This is completely unacceptable and must be urgently rectified.

❗Reminder: there is an alternative to slashing benefits for people on the lowest incomes. A closer trading relationship with the EU could grow the economy by up to 2.2%.
