It is great to hear @sianberry.bsky.social MP calling for the enactment of the socioeconomic duty. The UK Government have said they will, but they are now dragging their feet. It's time to unlock this vital tool for tackling inequality at a local level.

Scrapping the two-child limit is a great example of how a relentless campaign refused to take no for an answer - and as a result 450,000 children will be lifted out of poverty. Huge congratulations to everyone in the UK anti-poverty sector who never gave up.

Well said. Replacing the two child limit with a three child limit, or a tapered rate of support after the first child, would just substitute one cruelty with another. The new "lesser" cruelty might be more palatable or actuarially justifiable to politicians, but would still leave kids in poverty.

I of course welcome the recognition of the state of Palestine. And there won't be a Palestinian state left if government's continue enabling Israel's unfolding genocide. Labour can't credibly support Palestinian statehood whilst also continuing to arm Israel.

The UK recognising Palestine is 100 years too late. It acts as a reminder that the colonial powers that carved up the region in the first place now get to “grant” recognition. Palestinians never needed permission to exist.
