Dean Smith's first five seasons at UNC: 66-47, no tournament invites. Then from 1966/67 his teams lost 10 games a season three times and made 11 Final Fours with a record of 813-207. What gave Smith room to grow was integrating UNC basketball, starting with Charlie Scott in—you guessed it—1966/67.
