As an ident on its own, it is shite. But the promos, both regular and seasonal and the Christmas idents showed that there was a great deal of flexibility with the logo that was ultimately never utilised. Yet the subsequent log had loads of ident variations and admittedly much more character.

I don’t see why we can’t embrace hybrid broadcasting right now, leave the PSBs and its main spin offs on linear and put the rest online. But to do that we have to switch off MPEG2/SD first as a minimum, and we’re really lagging behind the rest of Europe at that.

Re Picture in Picture advert on the Six Nations… I remember when I went to Hungary almost 20 years ago and they had PIP advertising during the F1 on what was then RTL Klub. Amazed that’s it’s not happened here before now. Almost felt inevitable from the point Product Placement was allowed.

The ident itself is like a jumper, which is great, it’s the music and the fade to black at the end that make it scary.

This is personally my favourite, probably because it was the ident I associated with Sky One when we first had cable put in.

I never got why they ditched that logo. Every rebrand since has been inferior.
