We are excited to hear that @mayor.nyc.gov is prioritizing the long-delayed bike lane network in Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Midwood. We have been advocating for this network for years, both to protect cyclists and to improve safety for all road users in our neighborhoods.

We're really disappointed to hear that the bike lane network in Community District 14, including protected bike lanes on Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads, will not be installed this year as DOT originally presented. We're hearing they're targeting installation for next year.

Protected bike lanes are proven solutions that make streets safer for everyone: pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.

The Cortelyou Road Merchants Association (CoRMA), a community partner for last Sunday's Flatbush Walk and Talk for Safer Streets, is a strong supporter of pedestrian safety and effective streets and sidewalks for the many businesses on Cortelyou Road.

Artmageddon is a neighborhood-wide festival and collaboration with the Ditmas Park community. One of its many components involves open streets - in order for it to be an effective event, people need to be able to get around safely!

At Sunday's Flatbush Walk & Talk for Safer Streets, Leah and Joanna of Flatbush Food Co-op spoke about how one of the co-op's principles is "Concern for Community," and as such, they want to see safe, effective streets for all.

"The era of ignoring central Brooklyn and the south and east sides of Prospect Park has to be over. It's more critical than ever for New York to serve as an example of what safe, convenient, and equitable streets look like."
