Checked out Replaced for a bit and can’t say I had a blast. Looks awesome but feels a bit hollow. Gameplay isn’t compelling and there’s a major lack of atmosphere in the audio department that makes things worse. The quiet did lead to reflection but not in a favorable way for the game

First time playthrough! Out of the intro and into Chapter 1. So far this feels incredibly well packaged. Refreshingly brisk pace with lots of conveniences and QoL stuff. Characters are likable and, so far, the proto-Octopath mechanic doesn’t completely overtake the whole combat experience 👍

There has never been a better time to get a VPN and set it to Albania. No more ads on YouTube or Twitch, not even kidding. This mainly applies to video ads, but that alone justifies the cost for me. Using those apps/sites normally is an awful experience.

The biggest issue with OoT is that it’s so good from every angle that it’s also kind of boring to talk about. Not much else to say about the platonic ideal of a 10/10 game, and I think some people have more of a problem with that than the actual game itself

Finally getting around to modding my 3DS (surprisingly easy) like the apocalypse is approaching (it might be). Plan is to go with earlier Nintendo stuff on there; SNES, GBC, GBA but mainly 2DS & 3DS. Then, at some point, turn the Steamdeck into a PS1, PS2, Dreamcast machine.

some thoughts on XBCX: weird and messy, but also undeniably special. I got so close to falling in love with this game a couple of times, but ultimately a lot of the smaller issues pile up over the course of a very long game. still enjoyed it overall and glad I gave it another go!

Good piece. I do think this is one of those topics that is probably best met with a simple response: regulate real money gambling in games. That’s it. Once you start questioning the ethics of dopamine hits from RNG rolls in an RPG then I think you’re tiptoeing into paranoia territory

You can, actually, do both Real Criticism and a useful 'product' review within the same piece of writing. The presence of one doesn't necesarily lessen the impact of the other. A great piece of writing and intellect can also be in service of others' needs - and can even be better for it.

I’ve bounced off every Xenoblade game before the 25 hour mark, but I’ve been meaning to properly commit to each of them for a while and the Switch 2 edition of X is another chance for that. Think it’s clicked with me after engaging with it more as a “big world” game than a traditional JRPG.

while I'm hesitant to say that any boss from Bloodborne could ever really be considered underrated, I don't think Orphan of Kos gets enough credit for how good of a boss battle it is. location, music, art design and narrative impact, mechanics and difficulty. I think it's peak Fromsoft boss design.
