PlanScore just added scenarios to play with the implications of various swings in vote share for US House elections. For instance, it thinks current generic ballot (7 point shift from 2024 = D+5 generic ballot) implies about 230 seats for Democrats.

Did some plug-in solar math on my last 12 months of utility bills. Right now a DIY set of 1.2kW plug-in solar panels would pay for itself in 3 years. Alternatively a DIY set of 2.4kW panels + 3.6kWh of battery would also pay for itself in 3 years.

If coding is your favorite part of software engineering, keep coding. AI doesn't stop you. But if coding was the only part you were good at, that's a different conversation. The job was always bigger than the code.

AI Didn't Break the Senior Engineer Pipeline. It Showed That One Never Existed.
Most organizations never had a model for developing engineers. They had an environment that produced growth by accident. AI just made the luck run out.

Nobody likes it except that one guy who gets to change the really big clock because they let him swing from all the gears while he does it. The Old Clock Master they call him. He gets up there on those gears and gets to swinging and whooping and he's the only one who likes this.

Please add your comments to the survey, especially about the dangers of painted bike lanes Painted bike lanes on 2nd are dangerous door-zone lanes used more for double parking, and are not appropriate for a transit hub. OakDOT should follow the bike plan and install protected bike lanes on 3rd

We made a big addition to PlanScore this week: a scenario adjustment tool to change, view, and share outcomes for district plans. I wrote up a short summary of the technical changes we made, and link from there to a wider review of the politics that motivate the work:

We made some big upgrades to the PlanScore website. You can now design your own scenario to examine potential outcomes in state legislative and congressional districting plans. On any new plan, you can change incumbency, vote margins, and the base election that PlanScore uses for the projection.

As
@clairewillett.bsky.social
writes: "I hate these people to a degree that feels simultaneously corrosive to the soul, and also the only righteous response to this kind of evil." Homer called it ĪĻγή. It's what Achilles feels. (It's what Achilles DOES.) Also used by St Paul for the wrath of God.

Once again, in actual democracies, people do not need to engage in permanent litigation & political mobilization to retain the basic right to vote, because none of the major political parties make restricting suffrage the central pillar of their policy platform. We also don't have to live like this.
