New — I spoke to eight people who were present at the ICE protest on Saturday in Portland, Oregon when federal agents deployed tear gas and rubber bullets into a crowd of families, children, elderly and disabled people, and their pets. These are their stories:

A reminder that ICE/DHS is indeed doing illegal activity cause they break all that laws. Some criticize a general strike is risky due to the potential legal ramifications, but why should we care about a general strike being legal when the government doesn’t care about keeping things legal?

ICE is running a “conveyor belt” of illegally detained Minnesota families. Agents are arresting entire families with legal status and immediately shipping them off to Texas to deny them legal representation and avoid the federal courts in Minnesota. The cruelty is endless.

it wasn’t Border Patrol or ICE arresting clergy for peacefully protesting, it was a police department in MN. it’s police in MN using weapons of war to disperse crowds outside hotels where ICE agents sleep. no MN cop put renee good’s killer in cuffs or stopped alex pretti’s killers from fleeing.

@handsoffnyc.bsky.social held an at-capacity training today for nearly 1,000 New Yorkers, covering Know Your Rights, ICE Watch, and organizing & mobilizing strategies. Then, they connected everyone to local neighborhood groups so they can work together to protect their neighbors. We’re going to win.

They opened this emergency mass training on Wednesday, and it was filled by Friday. And now, they have a training waitlist of thousands of people who want to learn and get connected. Something is changing. The people are rising.

The incredible people of Minneapolis built a blueprint. People in community—supporting one another in whatever way they can. Recording ICE. Protecting children as they go to school. Delivering food to one another. Hyper-local rapid response networks and patrols. Striking, protesting. People power.

Today I saw ICE gas little white kids in the streets of Portland with chemical weapons. Imagine what they're doing to brown and black kids in the detention camps
