As there a lot of newcomers to the

here, these are all accounts I enjoy interacting with here! It was hard to move away from the Bad Place, but I've become a lot more comfortable in myself and sharing my writing, and a lot of these folks are responsible for that.

Super sloppy rain after 20cm of snow overnight. Merry Christmas to the fella next door from Eritrea who looked up to see three fellas in black hoodies with much larger shovels coming to help him with his driveway. Then my FIL stood around and smoked and asked him 200 questions, as is custom.

What do you do when your God is bad at his job protecting your people? Protect them yourself. Nevermind that you're still a kid. It'll be fine. Honest. I promise. Really.

Called a local cleaner to inquire about their rug cleaning service, and they basically told me that they were too slow with them so people got mad at them and so they stopped offering it. I mean, I admire their candor, if not their business acumen.

On a whim, I set up Google alerts for my name and my books a couple years ago. Since then, I've had a few alerts like this. Me and my books are out there causing more mischief than I realized.

A lot of people remarking/complaining about people saving their posts, often like it's suspicious behavior... Honestly, I don't think people are saving your posts intentionally. When you're scrolling on your phone, the save button is right where your thumb falls. It's a UI issue.

Today, I went to the library to look for a specific kind of book about a specific topic. On the same shelf, I found a *different* book on a *different* aspect of the same topic---an aspect I didn't even know existed. I went with the 2nd book.

Back in my day, when you're standing in the doorway holding the garbage bag when the garbage truck rolls by, it came at a walking pace, and you could hail one of the dudes. These days the claw truck zips up, zoops the whole can up with the claw, and zooms off. Damn kids and their garbage trucks.

This post I made a while ago is unfortunately timeless. "Suddenly I was faced with a kind of human I hadnβt known existed until then. Yes, people yelled from cars. At me. All the time. That, I understood. What I hadnβt known was that they were a KIND of person."

Some wise-sounding self-editing advice I came up with yesterday: Story issues that are small are often opportunities to tie story elements together more. It's when you try to fix big problems with little opportunities that problems arise.

I think the meanest moment in all the Fromsoft games is in Elden Ring, when you go into the forge and see the difficult golem guy petting the lava blob, and the trick to getting through the whole dungeon had been to shoot them with the darts that make them attack one another.

I haven't put my books on sale for $.99 at all this year. I get why people only buy books discounted, but after comparing sales with a friend who didn't do discounts & mostly sold print, I had far more sales but was far deeper in the hole b/c of it.

Postponed running out to do some errands when I saw a moderate dusting of snow falling. I do not trust driving around my city in winter anymore as everybody on the road seems deliberately stupid. Staying home and feeling sheepish about delayed errands feels like following OSHA regulations.

Reviews of your books aren't typically for you. They're for other readers. If you must read them, do so with a detached mindset to avoid getting your feelings hurt. Not everyone who disliked your book will be able to articulate what frustrated them in a way that helps you grow as a writer.

Unfortunately accurate. (Especially as some new authors think their first book will make them great and powerful, but in reality they're mostly invisible.)

My potential not-so-hot take on ITCH bundles is that fantasy is a fairly large blanket term, and bundles might be more attractive if they consisted of smaller numbers of books that honed in on more specific subgenres. π§‘ππ
