I've made four SFF novelettes available for "pay what you want" on ITCH, including my prehistorical vampire horror story, The Third People, which was a quarterfinalist in the Writers of the Future Contest. Four novelettes, four

Incidentally, the Wiki page of predicted dates for the apocalypse is some good reading. *Flammarion predicted that the 1910 appearance of Halley's Comet 'would impregnate that atmosphere and possibly snuff out all life on the planet. Comet pills were sold to protect against toxic gases.'"

I should be working on a book but instead I'm watching Gwar interviews from the 1990s. To be honest, this belongs in a museum.

I have sent House of Magic 5 to my editor! Now I'm going to rest a couple of days and then I have to put finishing touches to the cover and handle all the publishing stuff. If you want to read more about the series, you can find book 1, Hexing the Ex here:

Have books, will sell. Will also just give said books to your literary diet, if buying isn't an option. And these days, I imagine justifying a random indie purchase is no easy task. So try before you (maybe don't) buy. Readers are priceless to me, so why not show that in the most literal sense?

Took like two hours to prepare and eat some pretty meh pasta at my 'rents house while visiting because I don't know where anything is and such, but most importantly, had to hop up immediately and wash all them dishes or my mom will sneak in behind me if I blink and start doing them for me.

I've done my parents' neighborhood a disservice by giving my parents a portable Bluetooth speaker for Christmas. They used to take a radio out back on the deck & listen to the cruddy rock station. Now they take my mom's phone & stream TCRS through the portable speaker, with better clarity & bass.

Sitting here thinking about book marketing like ... trying to decide whether to target one person to buy, like, 10,000 books ... or would it be better to get one person to buy ONE book that costs the same at 10,000 books? How do other people choose?

This is how I feel about my editing website. A free site I made in 2011, it's not fancy, but it's accurate. I'm not going to "update" it, as a patina of more than a few years is a positive quality in this new trust recession.

Loves me 'rents, & that I can visit and stay with them in me old hometown, but I'm also learning that I am now mentally unfortified against the mispronunciation of every movie, show, & actor, while patiently sitting thru a recounting of all my dad's favorite Jason Statham movies.

Library just called to say that my out-of-province loan of David Weber's "To Challenge Heaven" arrived - the only series I'm currently reading solely as it's beautiful schlock. Also I'm frantically messaging my wife who works there to walk to that desk & get it asap b/c I think that'd be funny. 🧡🚀📚

I drew a little scene for

As I see it, this is not spontaneous, this is a smart political propaganda campaign. Most (lucky) people who aren't plugged in to online discourse don't know who he was. By threatening people away from speaking ill of him, they can set the narrative that he was killed for "speaking out."

Kinda silly, but after 10 years living on the loudest touristy corner in the province, & 2 months evicting boxes through cruise-ship loads of tourists while motorcycles farted by, yesterday I stepped out of my parents' house & saw no people, heard only birds, &, struck by it, I took a quick picture.

How to spread the word about your favorite author: ⚬ Write a review! ⚬ Recommend their books to your friends! ⚬ Make a TikTok eating their books! ⚬ Organize a book club that definitely isn’t a cult! ⚬ Start a conspiracy theory about them! Are they a Bigfoot? Let’s steal their DNA and find out!

Amazon legitimized ebooks on the backs of self-publishers, then slowly shifted their focus over to trad publishers, convincing them they could make more money if they didn't have to produce actual physical books. Trads now charge dead tree prices for ebooks & Amazon makes more royalties from them.

First draft of grant proposal for my ... "book I've been waiting until I'm good enough to write" is down on paper. It's a little weird writing a grant proposal when this time I don't have things like ... "title" or "any already completed chapters" to appeal with.

There’s likely an organized campaign going on to incite you to say stuff that’s gonna get you suspended or banned (or worse). The right has mentioned the Bluesky reaction to this incident repeatedly. They’re here to find targets. Don’t let them rile you up and goad you into something you’ll regret.

Don't wait until you have a book coming out to write your acknowledgments page. It's not a bad little activity (especially in moments as fraught as this one) to remind yourself of the impact of other people (so many other people!) & institutions have had on your life.

My missus & I took far longer than expected to get out of our DT St. John's apartment. Our last push took 36 hours, 10AM Sun to 10PM Mon, thru the night & into the next. Landlord says otherwise, but I expect the place to be an AirBnb soon, b/c nice things are only for tourists now.
