I'll just say two things this time: - The cover was made by a human artist (who nailed it tbh) - When the author says "Ghibli vibes," it means the hard parts too. There is a scene halfway through this book that has made me cry at least three times. When I knew how it ends! I'm biased but still. 😭

Actual psychologist here, and there are 2 things I would like to point out: 1. This sort of "we tried our best / we weren't so bad" is very much a classic move of the awful authoritarian and/or narcissistic parent, they've always done this and social media has allowed them more reach 🧵

When did I become such a jerk? I just paused a book I really wanted to like, partly because the MC had a nickname that was clanging in my ears. (Not the real names, but it's like "Bobert" turned to "Beeb." That's not the right vowel??) Also because it made real world references out of context.

I'm happy for those who enjoy doing book promo on Instagram or TikTok; it's clearly effective. And I get that humans are social, parasociality is huge, blahblah. But if I wanted to make videos or take photos of myself, I'd be doing that instead of writing books. My brain is words. It just is.

My advice: Like what you like and don't worry about anyone who tells you it's cringe. Life's short and the world's on fire, and as long as you're not hurting other people, you're fine. I mean, I still like U2, too! I don't care who knows it. If other people don't like that, that's a them problem.
