This is precisely why journalists should not be casting Trump and RFK as crusaders against Big Pharma. What they object to is regulation and consumer protection, i.e. they want to make it easier for corporations to poison and lie to us.

I have learned this lesson repeatedly over the last five years. Life in America means corporate emphasis on individual responsibility, even when there are multiple garbage fires. Protect your time, mental energy and focus. Prepare for the worst. And ignore people who say you're worrying too much.

I cannot emphasize enough that capitalism will not care about your reasonable concerns to everything; but it will actively punish you for declines in productivity, especially if you are part of one or more minority groups.

There is no valor in unnecessary suffering; and there is no need to hurt your own morale, and/or worsen depression and anxiety with hyper-awareness of the rapidly changing news. You can log off various apps, turn off notifications, or even put your phone in a box.

If you do not need to mainline US politics for your job, I strongly recommend not cooking your brain in live news updates unless you enjoy the feeling of professional energy vampiricism, anxiety and constant rage-baiting. And charge your phone away from your bedroom.
